Process and data integration through product data management, Sean Barker
Four levels of processes can be distinguished in a design organisation: change control, configuration control, design data management, and product definition. These can be related to the life cycle of key entities from STEP Integrated Resources. The control of the life cycle of each entity has considerable synergy with PDM systems, and leads to a four layer application architecture. The four layer approach also provides links back to the project.
